REVIEW: This is one of
those albums that at first glance, appears as
though it's a cheap knock-off, with (probably)
poor performances, poor sound, and destined
for the refuse heap of z-grade Messiahs.
You'd be wrong, however in thinking so -
while the label, YoYo USA, Inc, is indeed a
wholesale retailer who seems to specialize in
bargain-bin cut-outs, this CD is worthy of
seeking out and listening to - the Glasgow
Festival Orchestra and Chorus play and sing
beautifully, and under the baton of John
Rightman, perform with admirable ease and
finesse. The chorus sings in a
beautifully clear tone, with sopranos and
tenors who soar easily on the higher tones,
and basses who are powerful without being
overpowering. Everyone sings with great
commitment and power, as well as tenderness,
when called upon. Although I couldn't
find an internet site for this organization,
or even for their conductor, John Rightman,
they have many recordings which have made
their way to the USA via digital download, and
I'm going to seek out more from this laudable
choir and orchestra - they're that good, and
this short, bargain CD is very definitely
worth picking up.
