Welcome to The Complete Messiah web site.  My purpose for this site is to celebrate the music, message, and history of George Frideric Handel's baroque oratorio Messiah.

Since it's first performance in Dublin, Ireland, in 1742, Handel's Messiah has grown in stature among people around the earth, and here I hope to examine all aspects of its longevity - from its history and composition, to recordings, writings, films and other media which Messiah has been translated into.  I will feature Messiah in the news, with daily updates to how Handel's oratorio is being referenced by popular media; provide streaming video and audio media which will be updated weekly; and maintain an updated database of upcoming products and concerts.

Part of
Messiah lore says that after the first performance of Messiah, an enthusiastic member of the audience congratulated composer and director George Frideric Handel for producing such a wonderful piece of "entertainment."

"Entertainment!" Handel replied, "My purpose was not to entertain, but to teach them something."

So is my hope for this site.
